Joel Stanwood

Joel Stanwood is an experienced investment partner with a strong track record of successful outcomes through building great companies. Having served as an investment leader, team builder, and Partner at American Industrial Partners (AIP) for a decade, Joel brings relevant experience across nine platform investments and over twenty transactions comprising over $500 million in equity invested in US- and Canadian-headquartered manufacturing companies.
Joel has led and executed on all aspects of the investing process, with experience in deal sourcing and negotiation, and expertise in investment underwriting, value creation planning and execution, post-merger execution, governance, and exit planning. Joel has significant experience partnering with CEOs, developing management teams, investing in people and culture, and deploying a wide range of world-class technology and operational improvement systems.
Prior to American Industrial Partners, Joel was an engineer and manager at Siemens. Prior to Siemens, Joel worked at BMW where he learned to speak German fluently. He is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
Joel holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University with Honors, and a Masters in Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
In his free time, Joel enjoys chasing his four grade-school children with his wife, Christine, rising early, running and spinning, introducing friends to new wine varietals, traveling internationally, skiing, lake time, and cool “dad projects”. Joel volunteers with Scouts, school Dad’s Clubs, and local church and community impact organizations.
